Gold Squash Zucchini Soup

 I made Bittman's Pureed Vegetable Soup without Cream (p.125).  I've never made a soup before but it seemed easy enough!
 All was seemingly going well and with my sister's immersion blender I easily pureed the veggies after boiling them for a while.  However upon tasting the soup I learned my lesson, which is simply to plan ahead for amazing flavors otherwise you get boring flavors.
My roommate came to the rescue with a "flavor bomb" which was made by frying onions and garlic with oil and various spices - we then poured the soup over a slice of bread.... delicious!
